Pattern Printing FAQ

How are you different?

I specialize in doing small runs at very reasonable prices. Commercial printers require you to print thousands of patterns to get a decent unit price (i.e. price per pattern). I don't. And... I'm a pattern designer myself. I know what a pattern should look like. If you have questions, I'll understand what you're talking about.

What are your prices?

My prices are listed in this pdf file. They are based on a price per pattern only, and don't vary depending on the quantity printed. You can get 50 or 500 patterns printed for the same unit price.

What formats can you print?

I can print 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" saddle stitched booklets, as well as single or double-sided 8-1/2" x 11" pages, in black and white, or color. I can also print 11" x 17" pages, one or both sides.

I'd love to do booklets, but isn't the layout complicated?

No. It's actually very easy. All you do is set your page size to 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and create your pattern with the pages in order (1, 2, 3...). I take care of rearranging the pages to make a booklet.

How can I contact you?

You can send an email or call me at 508-583-2289 (noon - midnight). Really.

Can you do a full bleed?

Unfortunately, no. I can print to within an eighth of an inch from the edge of the page. For text, I recommend that you leave a 1/4" border.

What file formats do you accept?

For the pattern, I require a pdf file. If you are doing a separate cover page, I'll also accept an image file (jpg or tif prefered) for that. Images, whether embedded in a pdf or not, should have the resolution set at 300 dpi.

What is the minimum order?

The minimum order is $50, not including shipping or proofs.

What is your turn around time?

I send out proofs within 2 days. Typical turn around once the proof is approved, is 4 days. In an emergency, I can turn around faster, but I ask you not to make a habit of that... Also, I can drop ship to a show location.

Are there times you'd recommend a commercial printer?

Frankly, yes. If you're printing 1000 or more patterns at a time, you'll probably do better with a commercial printer. That's because they base their prices on quantity printed. With large runs, the price per pattern goes way down. I'm trying to fill a niche, for designers who'd like to print smaller quantities. Also, if you require a full bleed, or 11"x17" saddle stitched booklet, I can't do those.
